Is the Recession Over?

With a recent surge in mortgage approvals and signs of an increase in economic output some analysts are suggesting that the worst of the recession could be over. But how accurate is their analysis?
Although there has been an recent increase (16% over last month) in the number of loans handed out for house purchases in the UK there are many other aspects that need to be considered.
UK unemployment is at a record high and that doen't look like it's about to change in the immediate future according to national statistics.
Conclusion
Although the recession may not be over there are positive signs starting to apprear throughout the economy, a recent study by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research in the UK indicated that the economy may have grown by 0.1% in May this year. Not an earth shattering turnaround but an improvement none the less.
